Queens of Science

Performance

Queens of Science is a live, drag-led science communication performance that reimagines how scientific knowledge is shared. Inspired by the idea of an “erotics of science communication,” the show moves beyond traditional content delivery and invites audiences into an embodied, emotional, and intellectually vibrant encounter with research. It challenges the assumption that science must be explained only by scientists in formal settings, and instead stages science as culture: vivid, humorous, and fiercely present.

This world premiere performance runs 2h20 including a 30-minute break, and unfolds in a Late Night Show / Saturday Night Live-inspired format reimagined through drag, blending monologues, dialogues, choreography and theatrical spectacle into a narrative journey through science.

Created and produced by KOI, with contributions from all Queens.

More about the event

At the heart of the performance is the idea of an “erotics of science communication.”Inspired by Susan Sontag’s call for an “erotics of art,” the show proposes a shift from explaining science to experiencing it. Rather than asking audiences only what they should understand, Queens of Scienceinvites them to ask what they would like to explore. The performance creates the conditions for curiosity to emerge through sensation, humour, and shared attention.

The show unfolds in a Late Night Show format reimagined through drag. A charismatic yet neurotic host guides the audience through encounters with unexpected guests: not scientists, but personified scientific topics themselves. On stage, figures such as The Brain, Artificial Intelligence, or Sexappear as drag personas. Through conversation, performance, and spectacle, science is animated rather than abstracted, allowing audiences to engage directly with the ideas shaping our world.

Drag provides a powerful lens for this exploration. Its theatricality, humour, and charisma draw audiences into complex ideas without stripping them of depth. Instead of diluting knowledge, performance intensifies the encounter between science and the public. In this charged space between performer and spectator, curiosity becomes contagious and knowledge becomes something shared rather than delivered.

Ultimately, Queens of Scienceis a celebration of science as a profoundly human practice. Through spectacle, laughter, and surprise, the show dissolves the stereotype of science as dry or elitist. Humor becomes a cognitive tool, performance becomes pedagogy, and the stage becomes a laboratory where ideas are explored collectively. The result is an evening that reframes curiosity as something thrilling, intimate, and alive.

Meet the Queens

Velvette Teddy is a hairy, dramatic and high-energy drag queen/clown from Brussels, serving trilingual chaos in Dutch, English and French. With a background in dance, theatre and art, she blends clowning, comedy and unapologetic glamour into a gender-bending spectacle that lovingly messes with the binary. On stage, Velvette moves between stand-up, lip-sync, storytelling and full-body foolishness. Her drag persona is femme, fierce and a little absurd, but her performances? A bearded body with legs, lashes and heels, ready to make you laugh, blush or unexpectedly cry. She believes in emotional rollercoasters: if the jokes don’t land, she’ll shake her ass, because who doesn’t love cake? Velvette connects to Queens of Science through curiosity and transformation. Like science, her drag experiments with identity, challenges norms and celebrates discovery. She turns the stage into a laboratory where gender, beauty and humor collide.

Bikini The Third is a Brussels-based drag performer, host, and content creator also known as the queen of good vibes. She is celebrated for her love of camp, glamour, and polished beauty. A trilingual artist who connects with diverse audiences through live performances, hosting, and digital storytelling. She is the creator and host of drag brunches in Brussels and runs a growing YouTube channel alongside an active presence on Instagram and TikTok, where she shares performances, tutorials, and comedic videos. Bikini previously appeared in Kinky Boots, reflecting her passion for theatrical storytelling and larger-than-life characters. Having always felt far from the world of science growing up, joining Queens of Science feels like an unexpected full-circle moment. Inspired by the contagious enthusiasm of KOI, she proudly brings her curiosity, humor, and heart to a project she truly believes in.

Georgy Gorgeous is a performer, storyteller, and walking plot twist, trained as an actor, reborn as the self-proclaimed Mother Goose of Leuven’s cultural scene (LOV2030, Queer Arts Festival Leuven, Leuven Pride). From Excel to excellence, she blends theatrical craft with queer audacity, threading the line between clinical insanity and full-blown C.U.N.T. On stage, Georgy moves between cabaret, comedy, and musical eruptions, and she loves to make a good old drag mix. What starts as a performance quickly becomes a shared fever dream, but she always invites the audience to cross the threshold from observer to accomplice. Queens of Science feels like home: where critical thinking strengthens queer imagination. Make science sexy again? Georgy says yes, especially to the practical demonstrations.

Puki Harana is Belgium’s number one Filipina drag queen: a living celebration of identity, history, and resistance. As part of the Filipino diaspora, she uses drag to reconnect with her roots, channeling the ancestral power of the babaylan: queer, genderfluid spiritual leaders of pre-colonial Philippines. A true triple threat, Puki trained for ten years as an opera singer before evolving into a professional dancer and choreographer. She performed in both the Flemish and French productions of Kinky Boots and choreographed the Brussels version, creating work for much of the Belgian drag scene, including both seasons of Drag Race Belgique Live.
